  1. Udo Lattek

    1970–1975, 1983–1987 · trophies Six Bundesliga titles across two spells

    Built the side that won the club's first European Cup in 1974 and returned a decade later to win three more league titles.

  2. Dettmar Cramer

    1975–1977 · trophies Two European Cups

    Took over mid-season and won Europe's biggest prize twice, in 1975 and 1976.

  3. Franz Beckenbauer

    1993–1994, 1996 (caretaker) · trophies Bundesliga 1994, UEFA Cup 1996

    Stepped down from the boardroom to the bench twice, and won a trophy each time.

  4. Ottmar Hitzfeld

    1998–2004, 2007–2008 · trophies Five Bundesliga titles, Champions League 2001

    Lost the 1999 final in stoppage time and won the 2001 final on penalties. One of only a handful of coaches to win the European Cup with two clubs.

  5. Jupp Heynckes

    1987–1991, 2009, 2011–2013, 2017–2018 · trophies Four Bundesliga titles, Champions League 2013

    Answered the 2012 final defeat with the 2013 treble, then retired — and came back at 72 to steady the club again in 2017.

  6. Pep Guardiola

    2013–2016 · trophies Three Bundesliga titles, two DFB-Pokals

    Rebuilt how the team occupied the pitch and won every domestic league available, but lost three consecutive Champions League semi-finals.

  7. Hansi Flick

    2019–2021 · trophies Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, Champions League 2020

    Promoted from assistant in November 2019 and won every one of the six competitions he entered in 2020.

  8. Vincent Kompany

    2024–present · trophies Bundesliga 2024-25

    Arrived from Burnley to an unconvinced reception and won the title back from Bayer Leverkusen in his first season.
